Centurions Fall 2-3 in Final Home Contest

The Montcalm Community College volleyball team competed in a Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Northern Conference match against Bay College on Tuesday, Oct. 17. The Centurions (7-14, 3-8 MCCAA) were not able to close out the match against the Norse (11-15, 4-8 MCCAA).

The Centurions took the Norse into extra points in set 1, but eventually fell 26-28. The Centurions won set two and set three with scores of 25-19. Despite having a ​5-point lead in set 4, the Centurions were not able to close out the Norse and fell 23-25 to force a fifth and deciding set where the Centurions eventually fell 8-15.

Freshman Tiana Whitacre picked up a career milestone of 500 career assists when she recorded a match high 38 assists. Whitacre also recorded her fifth double-double with 38 assists and 12 digs. Leading the defense was Lily Bohen who picked up 16 digs and Piper Groesser who recorded a career high 5 blocks. Freshman Maia Sexton led all hitters with 12 kills and Melissa Gosslin picked up a career high 5 service aces.

The volleyball team will compete at Grand Rapids Community College on Oct. 19, with a game time of 6:30 p.m.
