MCC golf team places second at GRCC Invitational

The Montcalm Community College golf team placed second in the Grand Rapids Community College Invitational at Egypt Valley Country Club in Ada on April 15. 

They competed against Schoolcraft College, Kirtland Community College, Oakland Community College, Marian Ancilla Community College, Mott Community College, St. Clair County Community College, Delta College, Jackson College, Muskegon Community College, Glen Oaks Community College and Grand Rapids Community College. 

The team’s overall score was 328. Ethan Johnson finished with a 77, Zack Johnson finished with a 79, Ryan Clingenpeel finished with an 85, Jerald Brownell finished with an 87, and Lucas Hirkaway finished with a 102. 

Coach Doug Harkema said he was very proud of the team’s performance for the first time out. 

“I would like to say that it is great to get back to competing again!” Harkema said. “We had a couple of events that were cancelled due to weather to start our season. 

“Ethan Johnson has had a great spring so far and that showed up on Monday,” he said. “I’m looking forward to seeing how much better we can get this spring.”
